Are you the caregiver for a senior who lives in the East Kootenay?
You may be looking after a parent, a spouse, a friend, a neighbour. They may live in their own home, in your home, in a facility.
Do you need information to navigate the health care process for the person you care for?
Do you know whom to call, where to go, what to do?
Do you need practical ideas to help you care for your loved one?
Are you dealing with dementia, wandering, aggression, incontinence, depression?
Do you need help to care for YOU?
Do you feel frustrated, angry, sad, overwhelmed, guilty, helpless, hopeless, tired?
We are the Caregivers Network for East Kootenay Seniors and we help people caring for seniors who live in the East Kootenay.
This service is funded by Interior Health Authority and is free.
Who We Are
It has been over 20 years since a support group for caregivers was established in Cranbrook by Mental Health, Continuing Care and Home Support Services. In 2003, thanks to the foresight of Interior health, we were given a grant to set up an East Kootenay wide Caregivers Network with support groups in six of the largest communities and a toll free number for telephone support and information for the whole area. A program manager oversees and mentors six community facilitators and works closely with the volunteer board of directors. In 2009, we became the Caregivers Network for East Kootenay Seniors Society. A registered not for profit society. The board of the society meets four times per year in Cranbrook. Through the dedication of the facilitators, the program manager and the board, invaluable support is provided to caregivers in the East Kootenay region.
